These brass Brazilian scapulars on a 25" sterling silver chain were blessed at our Lady of Pompeii shrine in the west village of Manhattan and feature the Virgin Mary, with back details of the sacred heart of Jesus. The Portuguese word Saudade is like few others, in that it has no direct translation in english - and any attempt, in the heart of a native speaker, falls short of encapsulating the depth + complexity of its meaning. one effort claims that it is an emotional state of profound nostalgia, a longing for an absent something or someone that one loves; moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing may never return.
