How did your brand come to be?

I started my career in investment banking, where traditionally, the most junior person on the team is in charge of carrying all of the meeting materials. I was constantly in need of a bag that could carry a tome of printed presentations, and my laptop, and my notebook, and my calculator, and whatever other essentials I needed that day.  It felt like my only viable options were essentially gym bags. I was longing for something that looked polished and chic, but was functional enough to hold everything I needed. 

Fast forward seven years and my need for a versatile, but design-forward everyday bag was still there. I embarked on the journey to create Jorja.  I drew inspiration from my experiences living in New York and the multifaceted demands of my day. I recognized the need for a bag that could flawlessly navigate the complexities of modern life - from the daily commute to the board room to the gym and beyond. I wanted each bag to embody simplicity, sophistication, and the art of multitasking. The result is a collection that epitomizes versatility, transcending traditional notions of work bags, gym bags, and travel bags. 


What brand values are most important to your brand?

We exist at the intersection of fashion and utility: we’ve combined the aesthetics of a luxury brand with the functionality of a gym bag. That means that unparalleled craftsmanship is of the utmost importance. Our bags are handcrafted in Tuscany using top tier nylon, and our quality control process really is unmatched.

What inspired you to become a designer?

Other than the product market fit dilemma I described before, I’ve always loved fashion and really valued the importance of expressing myself through my style. I’m at my most confident when I feel well dressed. To me, wearing a gym bag to a meeting made me feel sloppy and insecure.  Never underestimate the power of a great outfit! 


How did the brand’s name come to be?

My dog’s name is Georgia, spelled like the state.  She’s my constant companion and little muse.


When was your first industry experience, and how did it impact you?

I interned in the accessories department at Marc Jacobs one summer and I was blown away by the assortment! There were so many bags! I knew I didn’t want to build a brand that ran on constant newness–Jorja is all about transcending seasons and trends.  We’ve created some classic silhouettes that will last from season to season. 


What sets your brand apart from the rest?

I’m a little biased, but I’ve yet to find a bag that is as functional and good looking as ours!  All of our bags have zip closures, light colored interiors (so your bag isn’t  a black hole) and pockets for your phone or laptop.  We’ve designed them with optimal use in mind, and we did so without compromising style. 


What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

We’re a small, scrappy brand.  Without any real marketing or PR budget we were lucky to be nominated for Oprah’s travel award.  We also got into a top trade show before we turned one.  We have some really exciting partnerships on the horizon. The best is yet to come! 


What are some challenges you’ve had to overcome with your brand?

Marketing is expensive! We originally envisioned ourselves as a DTC only brand but quickly realized the importance of becoming an omnichannel player.  We’re now prioritizing wholesale channels and expanding through trunk shows and pop-ups with other brands. 


How do you gather feedback from your customers, and how does that influence

product development?

I personally go to all of our pop-ups and trunk shows. I love seeing customers interact with the product! We’re launching a backpack in the fall after hearing so many requests for one!


Besides your brand, what are you passionate about?

My family.  I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter, Franny, when I launched Jorja and I have another on the way this fall.  


What are some daily habits or practices that help you stay productive and motivated?

I am an obsessive list maker.  I start everyday with a to do list and try to tackle as much as feasible.  I also value work-life balance.  I always make sure I have time for a quick jog or a trip to the park with my daughter- it fuels me!


What’s next for your brand’s future?

We’re excited about some upcoming partnerships, which I’m not able to talk about in detail quite yet. Stay tuned!
