Seen here with its black and white recognition stripes (after D-Day, known as Invasion stripes), the Hawker Tempest was one of the best fighters of its time. Extremely fast at low altitudes, highly maneuverable and heavily armed, it never got a chance to prove itself as a high-altitude interceptor.
Instead, it excelled at defending Britain against the V-1. Socks inspired by Hawker Tempest.
