When did you know you wanted to become a designer?

I didn’t want to be a designer growing up but having three generations of designers in my family, it was already in my blood.

 

What is your earliest design memory for your brand?

When I had to design the labels and trims, I had a vision for life for the brand.

 

Where do you find inspiration?

My daily life of work inspires me every day.

What is your favorite part about designing?

Studying fabrics and seeing how they react to different wash processes. I want to match each fabric with its perfect wash.

 

What role does sustainability play for your brand?

We are improving our practice of sustainability by reducing the number of chemicals and water that we use in the wash process.

 

What was your previous work experience before launching your brand?

I had retail shops here in the USA and South Korea for about 10 years to experience end customers’ needs. Touching denim for about 20 years in Los Angeles from threading to washing was a great experience to know all the details about denim makings.

 

What sets your brand apart from the rest?

We make in-house denim here in Los Angeles with about 200 employees every day and we are direct from the factory to the consumer to save any penny from the consumer’s pocket. Quality, no doubt.

What brand values are the most important for DNMCITY?

We value every single pair of our jeans and if consumers are happy with our products, we are more than happy!

 

What do you envision for the future of your brand?

We strive to be a denim brand that can provide enough work for those who’ve dedicated their whole life to making denim jeans in the denim industry here in Los Angeles.

 

Do you have a favorite piece that you have designed?

Not a single style but all of them took my heart and they all are my favorites. 

 

What were some hurdles you had to overcome in your business?

Patience. As you all may know, with denim, our sampling process is laborious. We work tirelessly to perfect our fit, match with the best denim fabric, and pair with its perfect wash.

 

What is the one piece of advice you would give to a new designer?

Being a designer is not just a title or ambition of what you want to be. You must first be ready to serve others. I highly recommend this to those upcoming passionate designers; you may want to practice knowing who you are and know how to make your own piece of clothing without depending on other technicians’ hands before designing for others.

 

How important is social media to your brand?

It is definitely one of the best ways to communicate with our customers but not a very important asset.

 

What made you want to design a line of pieces for women?

This answer is directly from a business perspective and yes, there are still more female consumers than male. 

 

What is the most important thing you would like your brand to be recognized for?

True to the quality.

 

How would you define fashion?

Fashion defines the trend of styles and yet, is the core statement as an essential of living.
