MO & KO Collective is a company that is very passionate about the Huichol People and their sacred art. The Huichol or Wixàritari are an indigenous people of Mexico living in the Sierra Madre Occidental, a mountain range in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango. They have been creating art and jewelry as far back as the 16th century. Their jewelry collection has evolved over the last 30 years, offering modern designs and patterns, while still maintaining the same hand-made tradition of their ancestors. Susana Valadez, founder of The Huichol Center for Cultural Survival and the Traditional Arts, has assisted the Huichol women in the marketing of their traditional jewelry so their endangered tribe could survive in the modern world. With great success the Huichol designs have graced the pages of publications such as: Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Self, O and Rolling Stone.
