Our Beliefs At Spirit Sarai we believe in honoring different styles of life and appreciating the energy each life form carries with them. From the people we meet, to the earth we walk on, to the clothes we wear, and the history woven into them. Our Heritage Textiles Spirit Sarai styles honor the craft, ancient culture and pure spirit of India. We do this by preserving ancient textile traditions of India and her nomadic tribes. Most styles are made using garments of traditional Indian dress, such as saris or dupattas. Sarai is the name of the woman who sold me my first vintage sari from a street market on my first trip to India. Overwhelmed by all the beautiful embroideries, Sarai explained to me how there could be so many different types of saris, each one unique with its own embroidery technique used to embellish it.
The vintage hand embroideries found on these fabrics had been passed down for generations by women of particular villages, each stitch technique native to a different area of India. Spirit Sarai was born out of this meeting in the market with Sarai, her proud glow as she talked about Indian textiles. By purchasing a Spirit Sarai style you help keep the spirit and craft of each village alive. Our Sustainability Promise 98% of all our styles is upcycled, made of sustainably sourced materials. Mainly we use vintage Indian garments, but in some styles we use reclaimed fabric that was discarded by the fashion industry. Each step of our process is done ethically and responsibly. Because we love our Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants.
