Layneau isn’t just a lingerie brand. It’s a philosophy. A manifestation of founder Kaaren Harper’s belief that beauty and strength come from self-love, and that self-love is inherent in quality design. “I wanted to create something for myself, and for other women” she says about the brands ethos, “Something with grace, and dignity. Elegance. Something with more savoir faire than I was finding else-where.” That’s why every garment is made with couture-level craftsmanship. Why all of Layneau’s lace is French and hand applied, and stitches number 33-per-inch. The attention to personal detail is uncompromising, becuase it’s precisely what elevates a piece of clothing into an elegant moment.
The designer founded Layneau in Portland, Oregon in 2012, but in the many ways it was a lifetime in the making. The culmination of her time spent at the helm of a fine, custom Portland jewelry store with master European artisans. Of years honing her craft in Broadway costume design, under the tutelage of the Tony Award-winning Victor Leverett, and soaking up the glamour and joy of the West Coast’s preeminent “ballroom scene” queens. Of living in India, where dressing is as much an act of art, as it is mutual respect. From all of these worlds, across continents and professions, the designer took notes. The tailoring was flawless. The charisma, unbridled. Layneau looked to them as a springboard for its own universe, where timelessness and fantasy mingle - and sensuality reigns supreme.
